Lordsburg

Additional bootheel information (March 2008) :

We drove through the Hachita/Lordsburg area in mid-March 2008.

The not so good news: The trail north of Lordsburg into Engineer Canyon is still not marked at all.

This is the fourth map for the Designated route of the CDT (Continental Divide Trail) between the Crazy Cook Monument on the Mexican border and Silver City, New Mexico. This map covers the trail through the Pyramid Mts into Lordsburg, NM.

North of NM SR 9, there was no trail blazing/marking all the way to Silver City. We followed the approximate route as drawn on maps by the BLM and CDTA. This route took us for a bushwhack into the hills south of Lordsburg.

On this map, the yellow line is the CDT. The "pink" line is the designated route of the CDT where we diverged from the route by mistake when we were going into Lordsburg. As with all the pictures, if you want the "full-size" view, click on it.

Water sources are marked by a blue dot, with an identifying tag to the northeast of the location for each blue dot.

For the present, there are sufficient reliable water sources on this section of trail, but it may be advisable for the hiker to either carry some form of water treatment or be willing to to drink "less-than-desirable" water. For the future, it might be well to realize that one or more of these water sources may not be functional at any given time.
